IMPORTANT: Proper installation requires careful cutting and trimming of the car’s shift plate and center console. Requires clean cutting along the line between the ash tray and shifter plate.

THIS ITEM REQUIRES CAREFUL CUTTING and removal of the existing ashtray section of center console shifter plate. Also required is the trimming of the hidden plastic inner flange of the console by about a quarter inch to make room for the two cup sleeves. Recommended cutting tool is a Dremel rotary tool with a cut-off wheel at low speed. Instructions for cutting are included.
MANUAL transmission consoles: The raised surface design is unique in that it covers and overlaps the lower shifter plate to hold down the leading edge. Careful cutting of the edge forward of the boot to leave a small eighth to quarter inch plastic margin.
AUTOMATIC transmission consoles: the two crews on the forward edge of the shifter plate are decorative screw heads and do not fasten anything. Cut carefully along the line dividing the ash tray and shifter. The cup holder overlap hides any rough cut or mistakes from the cutting removal of the ash tray.
POWERED USB PORT OPTION (see other listings): Places a USB port between the two cup holders. Port is fused for 3 amps and includes wire tap connectors. It is recommended that power be tapped from the stereo power wire that is switched to the ignition.

Re-use the four existing factory installed 3/4 inch long torx head bolts, from the ash tray console, to fasten/secure the bracket.
NOTE: FOR 82-84 Camaros these cup holders provide space for the original automatic transmission rigid curved shifter dust cover strip (instead of the later model ‘rolltop’ dust strip). There is enough gap for the cover strip to pass between the cup sleeves when the shifter is in ‘Park’. However, part of the forward strip “guide” may also need trimming.
